SCOPE OF THE WORK: The candidate will assess the state of the vehicles so far developed, and comment their characteristics and potentialities, possibly comparing them with the concepts still being studied. TITLE: Conceptual study of a rotating big manned infrastructure, located at Lagrange Point, based on Gerard O’Neill design
DESCRIPTION: The project requirements include at least: reviewing the G. O’Neill Island 1, 2 and 3 design, the design of an infrastructure, suitable to accommodate few hundreds humans in an Earth-like environment, with one G simulated gravity, houses, industrial and civil infrastructures: current water, electricity, fresh air generation, sewage and trash recycling. Industrial process of recovered debris, zero g products production (using the zero G hub of the thorus), exo-farming and exo-agricolture might be included among activities.
SCOPE OF THE WORK: The design coordinator will define the basic requirements, stake holders, identify the disciplines to be involved, define subproject (related theses works), coordinate the integrated effort, make a busgetary estimantion of the cost for the implementation, commissioning and maintenance of the infrastructure; industrial business plan.
Design inputs include the Gerard O’Neill works Island 1, 2 and 3, and some of the Krafft Ehricke papers, at least “Anthropology of Astronautics”, “The Extraterrestrial Imperative”, “Ehricke Space Garden”, “Utilization of Space Environment for Therapeutic Purposes”, “Development of Large Earth Orbital Space Station”. The “Island 0” project by the British Interplanetary Society (Jerry Stone) should be analyzed as well.
