With the aim to focus the public attention on the Space Renaissance vision, SR Italia adopted Space Tourism as primary target. Such two words represent, in fact, a perfect synthesis of two fundamental concepts:
- push toward a more efficient, economically sustainable, routine-type access-to-space, as the key factor for any possible space activity. Getting Aeronautics closer to Space is clearly today the main route and the already available space tourism projects are demonstrating it;
- make use of Space not only for scientific purposes as the world is still doing today. It is of paramount importance to understand that present long term forecasts indicate that the XXIst century Space Tourism will evolve in a manner that is very similar to what happened to the XXth century Air Tourism (civil aviation). It is also important to consider that Italy has a long tradition of scientific and industrial capabilities and competences, with entrepreneurship that is only apparently far from what is necessary to develop space tourism. And the concept of tourism also well matches with the Italian vocation that is often mistreated but unquestionably existing and well appreciated worldwide.
